Johann Balthasar Kehl, Vom Himmel hoch da komm ich her
I have neglected Kehl somewhat these last months. And there quite a few pieces of him left to publish. So it’s about time to post a new piece by Kehl. The piece presented here today is a festive prelude on “Vom Himmel hoch da komm ich her”. With Christmas coming in a few months, perhaps this piece is of use to someone, preparing survice for those festive days.
As is usual with Kehl this piece start with a somewhat unrelated intro. The intro sets the mood, but does not employ a motive from the chorale melody. The melody is presented against a fast moving accompaniment.
The recording was done on the sample set of the Müller-organ in the Sint Bavokerk in Haarlem by Voxus Organs for Hauptwerk.
I did not notate the exact registration. But it consisted of a relatively small plenum on the Rugwerk for the introduction and the accompaniment, and a larger plenum on the Hoofdwerrk for the choral melody.
