Anonymus, Mit Fried und Freud, ich fahr dahin
The eighth piece of the second fascicle of manuscript Mus. Ms 30439 is a fantastic prelude on “Mit Fried und Freud, ich fahr dahin”. The procedure is familiar from several other pieces in this manuscript: first a four part fugue on the opening stanze of the choral melody. Then the soprano voice is silent for several bars, after which it reenters to state the full choral melody in long notes. The voice leading is superb, creating a profoundly moving piece.
The recording was done on the sample set of the Müller-organ in the Sint Bavokerk in Haarlem by Voxus Organs for Hauptwerk.

A fine piece: just what I need for the “Nunc Dimittis” theme this coming Sunday! Many thanks for making it available.
You’re welcome. I hope it serves you well. And try some more of those anonymus pieces from the same manuscript. It’s very good music.
A very nice piece, for example for the upcoming New Year’s Eve – many thanks for the edition and recording!
A registration alternative: If you leave the melody on a manual with the remaining voices, it is also dominant in the soprano, but the piece gets even more gravity.
