Friedrich Wilhelm Marpurg, Befiehl du deine Wege
The next choral prelude by Marpurg’s hand is the prelude to the famous melody of “O haupt voll Blut und Wunden”. That melody was used for other chorals as well, and in this case Marpurg uses the title of one of those other chorals, “Befiehl du deine Wege”.
Marpurg places the choral melody in canon in the right hand and lets the hand provide an accompaniment in eigth notes. A simple procedure with which Marpurg nevertheless creates a moving piece. In its simplicity, one of the better choral preludes by Marpurg. atmosphere of this composition.
The recording was done with the Hauptwerk software and the sampleset, made by Sonus Paradisi, of the Schnittger organ in the St. Martini-kerk, Groningen (https://www.sonusparadisi.cz/en/organs/netherlands/groningen-st-martini.html).
