Friedrich Wilhelm Zachow, Allein Gott in der Höh sei Ehr (LV 46)
Manuscript Mus. ms. 40037 (owned by the Staatsbibliothek Berlin – PK) contains two choral preludes to “Allein Gott in der Höh sei Ehr” by Zachow’s hand. Though it is not exactly clear whether they are meant as seperate piece, or that they are supposed to be played one after another. The second one is simply called “Alio modo pedaliter”. Lohman obviously thought they belonged together and gave them both the same number in his catalogue (LH 46). I;m not so sure though. I’m not so sure though. They could equally well be seperate pieces, and one can choose to play on of them or either of them.
The second one misses two bars of the choral melody. As the first one does contain the complete chorale melody this omission is probably an error by the scribe of this manuscript. In my edition I offer a suggestion for the two missing bars, rendered in small notes, so it is clear which notes are genuinly by Zachow and which notes are fillled in by me.
The recording was done with the Hauptwerk software and the sampleset, made by Sonus Paradisi, of the Hinsz organ in the Reformed church in the Midwolda
