Georg Andreas Sorge, Nun lob meine Seele den Herrn
The second chorale prelude by Sorge’s hand contained in Körner’s “Der angehende Organist” is a prelude to the chorale “Nun lob meine Seel’ den Herren”. Written in Sorge’s familiar trio-like style, it is an easy going composition that is a pleasure to play. Because of the lively pedal part, I found it fitting to play this piece with a plenum registration. Perhaps not the most logical choice for a choral prelude with a cantus firmus, but it fits the piece well, I think.
The collection of choral preludes by Georg Andreas Sorge on my website is by now rather substantial: 35 compositions. I hope to find more in suitable sources for further publications.
The recording was done with the Hauptwerk software and the sampleset, made by Sonus Paradisi, of the Schnittger organ in the St. Martini-kerk, Groningen (https://www.sonusparadisi.cz/en/organs/netherlands/groningen-st-martini.html).
