Kauffmann’s second chorale prelude to “Erschienen ist der herrliche Tag” has the chorale melody in the soprano voice. The other two voices weave a smooth flowing accompaniment using sixeenth notes running up and down. Perhaps they are meant as a symbol of Christ rising?
