Georg Friedrich Kauffmann, Puer natus in Bethlehem
The Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin has at least three sources for this prelude by Kauffmann: two copies of “Der Harmonische Seelenlust” and the “Zegertscher Sammelband”, a manuscript written by Johann Gottfried Walther. Although Walther is mostly very accurate in his transcriptions, in this piece he omitted the seventh bar. Since that bar is present in both other sources, I included it in mt edition. But the recording is the version as it is found in Walther’s manuscript.
The registration follows the indication by Kauffmann, though I play it an octave higher because the piece became too heavy otherwise to my taste.
The recording was done on the sample set of the Müller-organ in the Sint Bavokerk in Haarlem by Voxus Organs for Hauptwerk.
