H.W. Tauscher, Jesu meine Freude
H.W. Tauscher is a bit of an enigma. There are a few pieces of him around, but nothing is known of his life. I could not find the christian names that go with the initials. A year of birth and death can be found on the internet, but the source of these is unclear. There are some suggestions that the man never even existed and that the name is a pseudonym.
Two pieces of this mysterious Tauscher that are worth re-editing appeared in a periodical called “Orgel Journal”, in 1835. One is a choral prelude on “Jesu meine Freude”, the other an intricate 5-voice fugue on “B-A-C-H”.
The choral prelude on “Jesu meine Freude” caught my attention because the cantus firmus has the melody in canon. That’s not something one sees very often so I thought it worth the trouble to typeset it anew and publish it.
The recording was done on the sample set of the Müller-organ in the Sint Bavokerk in Haarlem by Voxus Organs for Hauptwerk.

Hello. Thank you for the scores by Tauscher. I have been trying to locate his setting of Nun danket alle Gott. Do you know it?
No, I don’t know it. There are several commercial editions available for it. However, I’ve not (yet) found a suitable source to create and publish a score myself.
