Johann Bernhard Bach, Christ lag in Todesbanden
Johann Bernhard Bach (1676 – 1749) was second cousin to Johann Sebastian Bach. He was organist in Eisenach, and there he worked a few years together with Georg Philipp Telemann. Most of his organ works we know today survived in copies by one of his pupils, Johann Gottfried Walter. The chorale prelude “Christ lag in Todesbanden” is one of them (Mus.ms. 22541 III, owned by the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin – PK.).
The recording was done on the sample set of the Silbermann organ of the Stadtkirche Zöblitz by Prospectum for Hauptwerk. The intimate character of the chorale prelude goes very well with the intimate sound of this organ.
