Johann Christian Kittel, Mir nach spricht Christus
The Sächsische Landesbibliothek – Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Dresden (SLUB) owns a manuscript (Mus.1-U-514) which contains works by Johann Christian Kittel. They range from very short preludes to elaborate sets of variations. I already posted 8 works from this manuscript (see Kittel in the composer index). I intended to publish all the variation sets and some of the larger scale choral preludes of this manuscript. I am aware Pierre Gouin recently started a series to publish all works contained in this manuscript (see here). So there is no need for me to publish all the works in this manuscript as well. But I intend to publish the ones I had planned, even though Mr Gouin will probably publish them first. He works a lot faster than I do.
Kittel clearly intends some of the works as a set of variations on a choral melody because he states so in the title. With some of the other works it is not as clear. The choral melody prelude here today, is followed in the manuscript by a few more preludes on the same choral melody. Originally I thought they were seperate works, but now I’m not so sure. Probably I’ll combine this one with the others and publish it as a set of variations later. For now it’s just this one.
The recording was done on the sample set of the Müller-organ in the Sint Bavokerk in Haarlem by Voxus Organs for Hauptwerk.
