Johann Nicolaus Hanff, Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott
Eleven days late for the actual occasion, here is Hanff’s version of “Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott”. Lacking a manuscript source, I based my score on the edition made by Ronald Lopes, available on IMSLP. The main reason to make my own score was that I think the left hand should be notated with the alto-clef. That way, almost no ledger lines or clef changes are necessary to notate the left hand part. I realise of course that not too many organists are able to read the alto clef. Making a version without alto clef, forces an editor to choose what he considers better for readability: a minimum of legder lines, or a minimum of clef changes of even staff changes. Ronald Lopes chooses a minimum of clef changes, I choose a minimum of ledger lines. So a user of these scores now has a choice, based on his or hers own preference.
The recording was done on the sample set of the Mascioni of the parisch church in Azzio, made by Piotr Gabrowsky.

Thank you so much for the alto clef! I have missed it.
Love your interpretation as well.
