Johann Peter Kellner, Wer nur den lieben Gott läßt walten
Kellner’s choral prelude to the choral ” Johann Peter Kellner, Wer nur den lieben Gott läßt walten” is not without it’s surprises and technical difficulties. The choral melody is played with the left hand. The two part accompaniment in the right hand is maintained throughout the whle composition. Several phrases of the choral melody are played with the pedals as well. The compositorial demands Kellner poses himself are a bit above his talent in counterpoint, as the voice leading is in places rather awkward. Kellner’s talent in writing pleasing music make more than up for the deficiencies in counterpoint, resulting in a fun piece to play.
The recording was made with the Sweelinq software and the sampleset of the Vater-Müller organ in the Oude Kerk, Amsterdam (https://sweelinq.com/product/oude-kerk-amsterdam-vater-muller/).
