Josef Ferdinand Norbert Seger, Præludium, D Dur (L 22)
The prelude in D DUr, L 22, starts with a long improvisatory-like introduction. Some passage are written out in broken chords, others passages are just long chord-sequences. It is not clear wether these chords should be played just like that, or that they are meant as a harmonic base for further improvisations. Listening to performances of other preludes of Seger with similar chord sequences shows that I am not the only one who has trouble making some sense of them Mostly they are played as just a sequence of chords. As I find that rather boring, I’ve tried to embellish them a bit. Not too much, as I am not good in improvisation. There are a lot more preludes like this in the manuscript I’m working from. so I’d better get proficient in dealing with these chord sequences.
The recording was done with the Hauptwerk software and the sampleset, made by Sonus Paradisi, of the Schnittger organ in the St. Martini-kerk, Groningen (https://www.sonusparadisi.cz/en/organs/netherlands/groningen-st-martini.html).
