Simon Lohet, Compositio super coral Psalm 9
Lohet’s composition on the melody of psalm 9 is a nice example of dense renaissance contrapuntal writing. Each stanza of the choral gets a fugual treatment, often in stretta. The harmony of the last beat of bar 16 sounds to my ears very modern, but it’s really there in the original edition.
I thought that these two pieces were the last Lohet pieces to publish. But that’s not correct: in part two of Woltz’s original edition there are two more choral preludes by Lohet. So, two more to transcribe and publish, before I can compile a complete edition of Lohet’s works.
The recording was done on the sample set of the Silbermann organ of the Stadtkirche Zöblitz by Prospectum.
