Wilhelm Karges, François Roberday, Capricio in D
This Capricio in d is based on Roberday’s “Caprice sur le mesme suject de Fugue 6me”. Roberday’s original consists of three episode of which Karges only uses the first one. Karges leaves more then half of the page on which this Capricio is notated open. Perhaps he meant to adapt the remaining two episodes as well and he never came around to it. Other than some rythmic simplifications, Karges changes nothing. He even keeps the ending of the piece the same as Roberday wrote it, where he in most cases writes a different ending for the pieces he adapted.
The result is more a testimony of Roberday’s compositorial skills than of Karges’ adaptorial skills.
The recording was done with the Hauptwerk software and the sampleset, made by Sonus Paradisi, of the Janke organ in the Stadtkirche of Bückeburg (https://www.sonusparadisi.cz/en/organs/germany/buckeburg-janke-organ.html).
