Marpurg&#8217;s descriptions of small- and large-scale contrapuntal and fugal procedures, based largely on Bach&#8217;s works, are forerunners of modern textbook descriptions of the classical fugue. It is no surprise therefore that Marpurg made heavily use of the form of fugue in his own compositions.<\/p>\n<p>One of Marpurg&#8217;s choral based fugues is the Fuga sopra <a href=\"https:\/\/partitura.org\/index.php\/genre\/allein-gott-in-der-hoh-sei-ehr\/\">&#8220;Allein Gott in der H\u00f6h sei Ehr&#8221;<\/a>. It is a four part fugue, with a theme that is only loosely based on the choral melody.
