Dietrich [Diderik Hansen] Buxtehude (1637\/39 – 1707) was a Danish-German organist and composer. For the last forty years of his life he worked in L\u00fcbeck, where he was organist at the large Mariairche. Buxtehude was the greatest composer of the northern European Baroque in the period between Heinrich Sch\u00fctz and J.S. Bach. His fame as an organist was very considerable. Johann Sebastian Bach walked all the way from Arnstadt to L\u00fcbeck to study with Buxtehude, and was crucially influenced by his meeting with the older composer, as was H\u00e4ndel. <\/p>\n

The Chorale Prelude Wir danken dir, Herr Jesu Christ is transcribed from manuscript Mus.ms. 22541 III, owned by the Staatsbibliothek Berlin. Again, I made two versions. In one the left hand is notated with the alto-clef. In the other the left hand is notated using the ‘modern’ treble and bass key. <\/p>\n

The recording was done on the sample set of the Silbermann organ of the Stadtkirche Z\u00f6blitz by Prospectum<\/a>. <\/p>\n
