The choral melody is in the upper voice. The other two voices provide an accompaniment based on short fragments of the chorale melody. Kauffmann prescribes a simple 8&#8242;, 4&#8242;, 2&#8242; registration for this piece, that I ignore in my performance. The piece is written in such a way that it is possible to play the choral melody with the right hand and play the accompaniment with the left hand on another manual.
