The reason why they are so short can only be guessed. Perhaps they were meant as intonations. Or perhaps they were meant as models for the start of a larger scale composition or improvisation. They consist of a contrapuntal exposition of a motive, almost immediately followed by a conclusion. Because they are so small I grouped three of them in one score.
