Martin Luther wrote it around 1524 for communion. The full title is a bit long, but it cannot abbreviated to &#8220;Jesus Christus unser Heiland&#8221; as that would lead to confusion with that other Lutherian hymn &#8220;Jesus Christus, unser Heiland, der den Tod \u00fcberwand&#8221; (English: Jesus Christ, our Saviour, who conquered death). That one is a bit more well known and is the one usually abbreviated as &#8220;Jesus Christus, unser Heiland&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Manuscript Mus ms 40037, owned by the Staatsbibliothek Berlin, contains 5 chorale preludes to &#8220;Jesus Christus, under Heiland, der von uns&#8221;. At least three of them were composed by Zachow. The one designated as LV 19 in the Lohman catalogue is in the manuscript indicated as &#8220;Alla breve&#8221;. Yet it isnotated in ordinary 4\/4-time.
